Description

Office of Communications expanded investigation into 8579 LLC's compliance with age assurance obligations under Online Safety Act to include two further adult services

On 11 September 2025, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) expanded its formal investigation into the compliance of 8579 LLC with the Online Safety Act 2023 to include two further adult services operated by 8579 LLC, namely JustPornFlix and 429.xxx, in addition to the 34 websites originally identified, which collectively contribute to over 9 million unique monthly UK visits. The investigation was originally opened on 30 July 2025 following the entry into force, on 25 July 2025, of statutory obligations for services permitting user-uploaded pornography to deploy robust age assurance. It examines whether 8579 LLC has failed, or is failing, to comply with its duties under Section 12 of the Act to prevent children from encountering pornographic content through the use of highly effective age assurance, and under Section 100 of the Act to respond accurately to an information notice. On 14 August 2025, Ofcom issued a formal information notice to 8579 LLC, to which no response has been received as of the date of this announcement. Ofcom stated that if it identifies any additional adult services operated by 8579 LLC that fall within the scope of the Act, the investigation may be further expanded.
