Republic of Korea: Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology announced Enforcement Decree of Framework Act on Development of Artificial Intelligence and Establishment of Trust Foundation including AI authority governance

On 15 January 2025, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (MSICT) announced the drafting of the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and Creation of a Trust Foundation (AI Framework Act), which is scheduled to enter into force in January 2026, providing the primary subordinate legislation framework to operationalise provisions on national governance, industrial development, risk prevention, obligations of providers, transparency, safety, and accountability, and forming the legal basis for implementing enforcement and compliance measures under the Act.
