On 4 February 2022, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced that it has fined Meta Platforms, previously Facebook, for GBP 1.5 million over its noncompliance with a previous enforcement order issued on 9 June 2020. The fine was imposed because Meta failed to comply with the requirements outlined by CMA during its investigation into the Facebook acquisition of Giphy. The company was required to inform CMA of any “material changes” regarding the way they conduct their business, in special if there are resignations or reallocations of employees that have key positions at Facebook and Giphy, and seek approval before it rehires or redistributes positions in key positions.
