United Kingdom: Office of Communications issued a provisional notice of contravention to 4chan Community Support for failing to comply with Online Safety Act

Description

Office of Communications issued a provisional notice of contravention to 4chan Community Support for failing to comply with Online Safety Act

On 13 August 2025, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) issued 4chan Community Support a provisional notice of contravention under section 130 of the Online Safety Act, citing reasonable grounds that the provider failed to comply with two information requests required. Ofcom will consider any representations before making a final decision. Ofcom opened an investigation to assess whether 4chan has failed, or continues to fail, to meet its obligations under the Act. The inquiry will examine potential breaches arising from unanswered statutory information requests, the absence of an adequate illegal content risk assessment, and non-compliance with safety duties relating to illegal content.
