Description

Online Safety (Age-Restricted Social Media Platforms) Rules, 2025 enters into force

On 10 December 2025, the Online Safety (Age-Restricted Social Media Platforms) Rules 2025 enter into force. The rules define which services are excluded from being classified as age-restricted social media platforms under the Online Safety Act 2021. The rules specify that services primarily designed for messaging, calling, gaming, product reviews, professional networking, education, or health are not considered age-restricted platforms. This also includes services that significantly facilitate communication between educational institutions and families, or between healthcare providers and users. The presence of advertising or advertising revenue does not affect this classification.
