Implementation of extremism and hate crime law including reporting duty for platforms
On 1 February 2022, the reporting duty of the extremism and hate crime law is implemented. The duty applies to platforms with over 2 million users registered in Germany. Apart from removing illegal content, platforms will have to notify the authorities of the content and the IP address it stems from. The extremism and hate crime law expands the existing law on content moderation (Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetz).
