Description

Securities and Exchange Commission adopted regulation for Government Digital Tokens

On 13 May 2025, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC) adopted the regulation governing Government Digital Tokens (G-Tokens). G-Tokens, issued by the Ministry of Finance as government borrowing instruments under the Public Debt Management Act, are recognised as a new type of digital asset under the Digital Asset Business Act. The SEC exempts G-Tokens from requiring offering permissions, prospectus filings, and licensing for digital asset or securities business operators specifically related to G-Token activities. The criteria also establish standards for customer service, data handling, price disclosure, and operational requirements for digital asset exchanges dealing with G-Tokens.
