European Union: European Commission released findings of its coordinated enforcement action assessing very large online platforms’ compliance with General Product Safety Regulation

Description

European Commission released findings of its coordinated enforcement action assessing very large online platforms’ compliance with General Product Safety Regulation

On 18 July 2025, the European Commission published the results of a coordinated enforcement action assessing the compliance of Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) with the General Product Safety Regulation. The investigation, carried out by the Consumer Safety Network between 1 April and 15 May 2025, reviewed 1’741 product listings across 47 e-commerce platforms, including Aliexpress, Amazon, Shein, Temu, and Zalando. It examined compliance with traceability and safety information requirements, cooperation with market surveillance authorities, and obligations such as registration on the EU Safety Gate Portal. The investigation led to 252 orders, including 16 involving the re-listing of hazardous products. While 95% of products were identifiable, full manufacturer details were available in 52% of cases, and information on the EU responsible person was disclosed in 68% of listings. The Commission will continue to engage with stakeholders and monitor progress through initiatives such as the Product Safety Pledge+ and the e-commerce Communication.
