On 3 July 2025, the Budget Reconciliation Bill 2025 was adopted following the House of Representatives' motion agreeing to the Senate amendments. The final version includes section 40002 under title IV, which renews the authority of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to auction licences for the use of specific frequency bands through 30 September 2034. The provision mandates the identification of at least 600 megahertz of spectrum from existing allocations for reallocation to non-Federal, exclusive use within two years of Subtitle B’s enactment. Furthermore, a minimum of 200 megahertz must be auctioned within three years of the title’s enactment, with all required auctioning to be completed within six years.
