Office of Communications opened consultation on additional safety measures for online platforms

On 30 June 2025, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) opened a consultation on additional safety measures for online platforms until 20 October 2025. The consultation focuses on enhancing online safety through proposed measures such as using automated technologies for harmful content detection and ensuring services are safer by design. Areas include livestreaming protections, proactive technology use, and preventing the spread of illegal content like terrorism, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and content encouraging suicide or self-harm. Stricter age assurance mechanisms are also proposed to protect children. Stakeholders, including service providers, civil society organisations, and individuals with lived experience, are invited to provide feedback.
