Description

Council adopts common position on Digital Services Act, including specific compliance rules for very large platforms

On 25 November 2021, the Council of the European Union adopted its general approach on Digital Service Act (DSA). The adopted text outlines risk assessment rules and audit requirements for platforms providing their services to more than 45 million local users. The Council extended the applicability of the DSA, expanding the “very large online platforms” obligations to the “very large search engines”. This general approach completes the Council's negotiating position on the DSA and gives the Council Presidency a mandate to continue talks with the European Parliament during the interinstitutional negotiations in 2022.
