State Administration for Market Regulation opened consultation on draft regulations on the supervision and management of live E-commerce including data protection regulation

On 10 June 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) opened the public consultation on the draft regulations on the supervision and management of live E-commerce until 10 July 2025. The regulations mandate that platform operators must adopt technical measures to prevent unauthorised data processing. It also requires platform operators to ensure that the collection, storage, and use of consumer information comply with the Cybersecurity Law of the People's Republic of China. Violations of data protection obligations may result in penalties under applicable laws and regulations.
