China: State Administration for Market Regulation closes consultation on draft regulations on supervision and administration of online trading platform rules including data protection requirement

On 4 June 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) closes the public consultation on the draft regulations on supervision and administration of online trading platform rules. Online trading platform operators must adhere to the principles of openness, fairness, and justice. They are required to clearly define, in their platform rules, the standards and obligations for personal information processing by both themselves and businesses operating on the platform, ensuring that rights and responsibilities related to personal data protection are specified in a lawful and reasonable manner.
