On 6 December 2024, the Law for the protection of children and adolescents in digital environments (Bill 2628/22) was conclusively approved by the Communication and Digital Law Committee (CCDD) and since no appeals were filed before the deadline (5 December 2024), it was considered automatically approved and will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies for further processing. The Bill mandates that providers of internet applications offering pornographic content must prevent account creation and access by children and adolescents, requiring reliable age and identity verification, with data use strictly limited to this purpose. Social network providers must enhance age verification for child accounts, subject to Executive Branch assessment, and may request identity confirmation for suspected child-operated accounts. The Bill defines a "child" as under twelve and an "adolescent" as between twelve and eighteen, referencing Article 2 of Law No. 8.069, of 1990 (Brazil's Child and Adolescent Statute).
