On 15 June 2025, the European Commission closes its consultation on guidelines to ensure high levels of privacy, safety, and security for minors online in accordance with Article 28(4) of the Digital Services Act. The draft guidelines address the exercise of user rights by minors, including rights to access, rectify, delete, and restrict the processing of personal data. The guidelines propose measures to facilitate the effective exercise of these rights while ensuring that minors receive clear and age-appropriate information on how their data is used. Furthermore, the draft guidelines outline obligations for online platforms to configure default settings that maximise privacy protections for minors. This includes restricting visibility of minors’ profiles, limiting default data sharing options, and ensuring that minors are not subjected to intrusive tracking or data collection practices by default.
