European Union: Closed consultation on guidelines to enforce the protection of minors online under the Digital Services Act

Description

Closed consultation on guidelines to enforce the protection of minors online under the Digital Services Act

On 30 September 2024, the European Commission closed its consultation on guidelines to enforce the protection of minors online under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The guidelines will apply to online platforms and seek to ensure compliance with the DSA’s requirement to provide a high level of privacy, safety and security for minors. In particular, the guidelines will provide a list of practices and recommendations for online platform providers to mitigate risks related to the protection of minors. Furthermore, the Commission proposes that the guidelines take a risk-based approach to online harm, meaning that online platforms that are accessible to minors should regularly conduct a child specific impact risk assessment.
