On 26 January 2022, the Pacific Alliance and Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA) was signed by Singapore, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Chapter 13 of the Agreement on Electronic Commerce prohibits Parties from imposing customs duties on electronic transmissions, including digital products transmitted electronically, such as software, e-books, music, and videos. While allowing the application of internal taxes and regulatory fees in a non-discriminatory manner, the agreement reaffirms the Parties’ commitment to maintaining a duty-free environment for cross-border digital trade.
