Chile: Pacific Alliance and Singapore Free Trade Agreement, including provisions on customs duties on electronic transmissions entered into force

On 3 May 2025, the Pacific Alliance - Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA) entered into force for Singapore, Chile, and Peru. Chapter 13 of the Agreement on Electronic Commerce prohibits Parties from imposing customs duties on electronic transmissions, including digital products transmitted electronically, such as software, e-books, music, and videos. While allowing the application of internal taxes and regulatory fees in a non-discriminatory manner, the agreement reaffirms the Parties’ commitment to maintaining a duty-free environment for cross-border digital trade.
