Management Regulations for Terminal Device Direct Satellite Service 2025 including operational license requirement enters into force

On 1 June 2025, the Management Regulations for Terminal Device Direct Satellite Service enter into force. The Regulation introduces a licensing requirement for firms providing terminal equipment for direct-to-satellite communication services in China. Providers must obtain relevant telecommunications and radio operation licences under the Telecommunications Regulation and the Radio Regulation. The use of satellite systems is limited to those legally authorised within the jurisdiction. Additional licensing is required for firms transmitting broadcast television or online audiovisual content via satellite, in accordance with rules issued by the State Administration of Radio and Television.
