United States of America: National Telecommunications and Information Administration Reauthorization Act of 2025 (HR 2482) passed House of Representatives

Description

National Telecommunications and Information Administration Reauthorization Act of 2025 (HR 2482) passed House of Representatives

On 28 April 2025, the United States House of Representatives passed a Bill to reauthorise the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The Bill would increase the NTIA’s annual funding to USD 57 million for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, rename its leadership position from Assistant Secretary to Under Secretary, and update statutory references across several federal laws. It would also streamline reporting requirements by consolidating them into a single annual report covering broadband funding, spectrum innovation, and digital equity programmes. Additionally, the Bill would formalise the NTIA’s role in coordinating executive branch positions on matters before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and establish two new offices: the Office of Spectrum Management, tasked with federal spectrum allocation and policy, and the Office of International Affairs, responsible for advising on and representing US positions in international telecommunications and information policy.
