On 28 April 2025, the House of Representatives passed the Future Networks Act (HR 2449). The Act would direct the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to establish a 6G Task Force to study the development of sixth-generation (6G) wireless technology. The Task Force would include representatives from trusted communications companies, public interest organisations, academic institutions, and federal, state, local and tribal governments. The Task Force would be directed to issue a report within one year of its establishment that addresses the status of industry-led standards development, potential uses of 6G technology, and identifies limitations, including supply chain and cybersecurity concerns. It would also outline strategies for collaboration across all levels of government to support the siting, deployment, and adoption of 6G technologies.
