On 27 March 2025, the FUTURE Networks Act (HR 2449) was introduced to the United States House of Representatives. The Act would direct the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to establish a 6G Task Force to study the development of sixth-generation (6G) wireless technology. The task force would include representatives from trusted communications companies, public interest organisations, academic institutions, and federal, state, local and tribal governments. The Task Force would be directed to issue a report within one year of its establishment that addresses the status of industry-led standards development, potential uses of 6G technology, and identifies limitations, including supply chain and cybersecurity concerns.
