On 28 April 2025, the United States House of Representatives passed the Secure Space Act of 2025 (HR 2458). The Act amends the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 to prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from granting licenses, United States market access, or authorisations for geostationary and non-geostationary orbit satellite systems, as well as individually licensed and blanket-licensed earth stations, if the licensee is an entity that produces or provides covered communications equipment or services, or is an affiliate of such an entity. The measure addresses national security concerns related to satellite and ground infrastructure controlled by high-risk communications and network hardware providers. The FCC is required to issue implementing rules within one year of the Act’s enactment.
