United States of America: Federal Communications Commission closes consultation on inquiry into complementary PNT technologies

On 13 May 2025, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) closes its consultation as part of its inquiry into potential actions to support the development of technologies that complement the Global Positioning System (GPS). The inquiry aims to gather input on how to strengthen America's positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems by incentivising the deployment of alternative and complementary technologies. The FCC invited comments on how such systems could operate alongside GPS to form a diversified “system of systems,” covering technical, regulatory, economic, and international considerations.
