Secretary of Commerce initiated Section 232 national security investigation of imports of semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and their derivative products

On 1 April 2025, the Secretary of Commerce initiated a Section 232 national security investigation under the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (19 U.S.C. 1862) to examine the national security implications of importing semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment (SME), and related products. This encompasses items such as semiconductor substrates, bare wafers, legacy and advanced chips, microelectronic components, and SME parts. It also includes downstream goods that rely on semiconductors, particularly those within the broader electronics supply chain.
