On 7 May 2025, the United States Department of Commerce, through the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) closes the consultation on its Section 232 investigation into imports of semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment (SME), and related products. The consultation invites input from industry stakeholders, experts, and interested parties on issues such as domestic production capacity, foreign supply chain dependencies, and potential national security risks under the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. The investigation covers semiconductor substrates, bare wafers, legacy and advanced chips, microelectronic components, and SME parts. It also extends to downstream products that depend on semiconductors, particularly within the wider electronics supply chain.
