Description

Department of Justice disbanded National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team

On 7 April 2025, the Department of Justice announced it would no longer pursue litigation and enforcement actions that effectively impose regulatory frameworks on digital assets through the criminal justice system, a practice it described as "regulation by prosecution." As part of this policy, the DOJ also disbanded the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET) with immediate effect, redirecting prosecutorial focus away from regulatory violations and toward cases involving investor fraud, organized crime, terrorism, and other criminal misuse of digital assets.
