India: Delhi High Court ordered Wikimedia Foundation to remove defamatory content against Asian News International Media on Wikipedia (CS(OS) No. 524/2024)

On 2 April 2025, the Delhi High Court ruled on Asian News International's (ANI) plea against the Wikimedia Foundation over allegedly defamatory content on ANI’s Wikipedia page. The Court found that the content, drawn from opinion pieces, violated Wikipedia’s neutrality policy and was misrepresented. It held the Single Publication Rule inapplicable as the statements were not verbatim reproductions and lacked context. The Court noted that ANI was unfairly prevented from editing the page due to its protection status, and directed the removal of defamatory content and lifting of the protection.
