Consultation closed on Revised Provisions on the Administration of Mobile Internet Application Information Services (Draft) including user identification requirements

On 20 January 2022, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has closed its consultation on the Provisions on the Administration of Mobile Internet Application Information Services (Draft), which include user identification requirements. The consultation was opened on 5 January 2022. The Draft Regulations would apply to both application distribution platforms and providers of applications involving information services, such as messaging, e-commerce, audio and video services. App providers of information-sharing apps, such as instant messaging, would be required to carry out real and accurate identification of users, otherwise, such services may not be provided. Application distribution platforms would also be required to verify app providers using their services.
