On 25 March 2025, the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) issued Decision No. 18/2025, rejecting an appeal by Tools for Humanity (TFH) to lift the suspension on offering financial compensation in exchange for the collection of biometric data. The ANPD found that the proposed adjustments did not comply with its earlier decision, as the financial consideration for the collection of sensitive personal data remained and no substantial change in circumstances justified an alternative legal basis for consent. The suspension on the provision of financial consideration, including in the form of cryptocurrency (WorldCoin - WLD), for the creation of World IDs through iris scans in Brazil therefore remains in force. A daily fine of BRL 50'000 will be applied in the event of resuming data processing in violation of this decision, given the risk of violating the rights of the data subjects. All previous decisions and warnings remain in force.
