Conclusion of second CNIL investigations into cookie practices

On 14 September 2021, the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) concluded its second campaign of ensuring the compliance of companies with cookie requirements. Particularly, the CNIL announced that thirty of the forty warned organizations complied with the cookie legislations after being previously sent formal compliance notices, while four have requested a delay due to technical constraints and four have not responded. Non-compliant organizations risk an administrative fine of up to 2% of their revenue. The CNIL has also confirmed that new control campaigns on the topic will be conducted in the following months. Especially, these controls will continue targeting national and international private actors and public bodies through the frequent consultation of websites. Additionally, particular attention will be directed towards the websites of political parties due to the 2022 French elections.
