Announced second CNIL investigations on cookie practices

On 19 July 2021, the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) announced a second campaign to ensure compliance with cookie requirements. Specifically, the CNIL announced that it has sent warnings to four major digital platforms, six computer hardware and software manufacturers, six online consumer goods companies, two online tourism companies, three car rental companies, three banking services, two local administrations, two online public services and an energy company. According to the CNIL, these organizations did not comply with the legislation on cookies. The non-compliant behaviour encompasses the impossibility for users to refuse cookies as easily as they can accept them. The aforementioned organizations have until 6 September 2021 to comply with the rules. Otherwise, they may receive a fine of up to 2% of their revenue.
