On 20 March 2025, the Alliance for Language Technologies - European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (ALT-EDIC) and the Language Data Space (LDS) were launched. The objective of both entities is to increase the availability of linguistic data for multilingual artificial intelligence systems. ALT-EDIC, which was established in February 2024 with 17 participating Member States, is designated to develop a European infrastructure for language technologies. The LDS, which is funded under the DIGITAL programme, is intended to create a structured market for linguistic data. The legal basis for ALT-EDIC is Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/458, adopted under the Digital Decade Policy Programme 2030 (Decision (EU) 2022/2481).
