European Commission adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/458 establishing European Digital Infrastructure Consortium for the Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC)

On 1 February 2024, the European Commission adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/458, establishing the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium for the Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC). The objective of the consortium is to develop a common European infrastructure for language technologies, with a view to supporting linguistic diversity and strengthening digital capacity across the EU. ALT-EDIC is granted legal personality and is authorised to operate in all Member States, with specific legal, financial, and administrative provisions, including exemptions from VAT and excise duties for non-economic activities. The decision shall enter into force on 7 February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
