Commerce Commission filed lawsuit against HelloFresh over misleading subscription claims

On 11 March 2025, the New Zealand Commerce Commission filed a lawsuit with criminal charges against HelloFresh New Zealand at the Wellington District Court under the Fair Trading Act. The lawsuit alleged that between February 2022 and July 2023, the company misled consumers through cold calls offering discount vouchers without clearly disclosing that acceptance would reactivate their subscriptions. As a result, some customers had their subscriptions reactivated and their accounts debited without their express knowledge or consent.
