United States of America: Act on frontier artificial intelligence models and whistleblower protections including worker protection regulation (SB 53) was introduced to California Senate

On 7 January 2025, the Act on frontier artificial intelligence (AI) models and whistle-blower protections was introduced to the California Senate. The Act establishes essential safeguards for developing AI frontier models and enhances the state's capacity to utilise AI effectively. The Act introduces whistleblower protections for employees of AI developers, preventing retaliation against those who report critical risks. The Act also provides that developers must provide internal anonymous reporting mechanisms.
