Description

Competition and Markets Authority closes consultation on review of merger remedies approach

On 12 May 2025, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) closes its consultation on its approach to merger remedies. Remedies are measures imposed to address competition concerns arising from mergers, which may include structural changes, such as selling part of a business, or behavioural commitments, such as ensuring fair access to services. The consultation seeks views on how the CMA determines appropriate remedies, the role of remedies in preserving pro-competitive benefits, and ways to improve the efficiency of the process. As part of this, the CMA will engage with businesses, investors, and other stakeholders through webinars and roundtable discussions. Feedback gathered will inform the development of specific proposals, which will be published for further consultation in the autumn.
