On 7 March 2025, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the plaintiff states filed a Revised Proposed Final Judgment (RPFJ) in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, following the court's ruling that Google unlawfully maintained monopolies in general search and text search advertising. The judgment would mandate the divestiture of Chrome, while a potential divestiture of Android would be considered if Google's behavioural remedies do not prevent it from leveraging control over the Android ecosystem or circumventing regulatory measures. Google would be prohibited from making search-related payments to Apple and other distributors for default search agreements, effectively blocking exclusive contracts that restrict competition. The judgment would also require Google to grant competitors access to search index and advertising data on fair, transparent and non-discriminatory terms to promote market fairness. To ensure compliance, a technical committee and compliance officer would oversee enforcement, while the DOJ and the plaintiff state retain the authority to impose additional measures or more severe penalties if Google attempts to evade the remedies imposed. The proposed final judgement, however, no longer includes the remedy of AI divestiture and instead demands that Google notifies future investments in rival AI companies.
