Brazil: Supreme Federal Tribunal issued order to Rumble to block influencer accounts to comply with legal directives under the Brazilian Civil Code (Law No. 12.965/2014 and No. 10.406/2002)

Description

Supreme Federal Tribunal issued order to Rumble to block influencer accounts to comply with legal directives under the Brazilian Civil Code (Law No. 12.965/2014 and No. 10.406/2002)

On 9 February 2025, the Supreme Federal Tribunal of Brazil (STF) ordered Rumble Inc. to block all accounts associated with Allan dos Santos, a Brazilian digital influencer based in the United States who was accused of spreading hate speech and disinformation. The ruling also ordered the suspension of all monetisation, including advertising revenue, donations, subscriptions and live stream revenue associated with his accounts. This follows a preventive arrest warrant issued against dos Santos in 2021 for his involvement in criminal activities. Platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had previously been ordered to block his accounts, but he circumvented these restrictions by creating new accounts. To enforce compliance, the STF imposed a daily fine of BRL 50,000 on Rumble for failure to comply with the order.
