Brazil: Federal Supreme Court suspended Rumble for alleged non-compliance with legal directives under the Brazilian Civil Code (Law No. 12.965/2014 and No. 10.406/2002)

Description

Federal Supreme Court suspended Rumble for alleged non-compliance with legal directives under the Brazilian Civil Code (Law No. 12.965/2014 and No. 10.406/2002)

On 21 February 2025, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) ordered the immediate suspension of Rumble's operations in Brazil after the platform failed to comply with multiple judicial orders. The decision follows Rumble's refusal to remove accounts linked to criminal investigations, pay imposed fines, and appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as required under national regulations. The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) was instructed to implement the suspension within 24 hours. The court found that Rumble facilitated the spread of extremist content, hate speech, and anti-democratic messages, violating Brazil’s Marco Civil da Internet (Internet Civil Framework) and other laws. The ban remains in place until Rumble meets all legal obligations, including payment of fines and compliance with court orders.
