On 29 August 2023, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration opened a public consultation on the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Critical Information Infrastructure and Cybercrime Management) Draft Regulations, 2023. The consultation period, which will conclude on 22 September 2023, invites stakeholders and the general public to provide feedback on the draft regulations. The objectives of the draft regulations include providing a framework to monitor, detect, and respond to cybersecurity threats in Kenya’s cyberspace, establishing and managing Cybersecurity Operations Centres, and protecting, preserving, and managing Critical Information Infrastructure. Additionally, the regulations aim to provide for audit and inspection of National Critical Information Infrastructure, recovery plans in the event of disasters or breaches, capacity building for cybercrime prevention and mitigation, and promoting coordination and collaboration among stakeholders in the cybersecurity sector.
