Description

European Commission released Digital Decade for children and youth strategy including code of conduct on age-appropriate design

On 11 May 2022, the European Commission released "A Digital Decade for children and youth: the new European strategy for a better internet for kids (BIK+)" strategy, aiming to ensure online safety, empowerment, and active participation for children and youth across the EU. Building on the 2012 Better Internet for Kids (BIK) strategy, it addresses the evolving digital landscape and the diverse needs of children, including those in vulnerable situations. In particular, the strategy specifies the development of an EU code of conduct on age-appropriate design, strengthening age verification, promoting digital literacy, and involving children in shaping the digital environment. The strategy also emphasises international cooperation and will be monitored every two years with children's involvement.
