Competition Bureau issues report on artificial intelligence and competition

On 27 January 2025, the Canadian Competition Bureau released a report titled "Consultation on Artificial Intelligence and Competition: What We Heard", summarising conclusions from its consultation on AI and competition launched on 20 March 2024. The Bureau’s objective was to advance public discourse and deepen the Bureau’s understanding of AI and the competitive dynamics in AI and AI-related markets. Conclusions from the report include the rapid evolution of AI technology affecting market dynamics, significant investments by large incumbent firms potentially impacting competition, the possibility of AI facilitating anti-competitive conduct, and positive feedback on the Bureau's proactive engagement in this area.
