Canada: Issued order to wind up TikTok's operations in Canada following a national security review under the Investment Canada Act

On 6 November 2024, the Department for Innovation, Science and Industry Development ordered the wind-up of TikTok Technology Canada, Inc. following a national security review under the Investment Canada Act. The decision was based on an evaluation of risks associated with ByteDance Ltd.'s operations in Canada, as established through the creation of TikTok Technology Canada, Inc. While the TikTok app remains available to Canadians, the government has emphasised the importance of adopting good cybersecurity practices and understanding how personal data may be managed by foreign actors.
