Shanghai Data Regulations including data governance liability implemented

On 1 January 2022, the Shanghai Data Regulations enter into effect. The Regulations set out that violations of its provisions by private entities can lead to credit penalties. Further, where there is a serious violation involving the infringement of the rights of many individuals, relevant authorities may file a lawsuit.
