Shanghai Data Regulations including data governance liability adopted
On 29 November 2021, the Shanghai Municipal Government adopted the Shanghai Data Regulations. The Regulations set out that violations of its provisions by private entities can lead to credit penalties. Further, where there is a serious violation involving the infringement of the rights of many individuals, relevant authorities may file a lawsuit. The Regulations will enter into force on 1 January 2022.
