On 25 October 2024, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) opened a public consultation on the National Artificial Intelligence Policy Framework until 29 November 2024. The framework aims to provide guidance on the development, adoption, and regulation of artificial intelligence technologies in South Africa. It applies to developers and deployers of AI systems across industries, focusing on ethical principles, data transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. The policy introduces measures to address concerns regarding algorithmic fairness, digital infrastructure readiness, and talent development in the AI sector. The consultation process will inform the finalisation of the framework.
