Implemented Law concerning the prohibition of information advocating the abandonment of childbearing (Bill No. 724769-8 / Federal Law No. 411-FZ)

On 23 November 2024, the Law concerning the prohibition of information advocating the abandonment of childbearing (Bill No. 724769-8 / Federal Law No. 411-FZ) entered into force following its signing by the President of the Russian Federation. The Law introduces regulations pertaining to content moderation with the objective of preventing the dissemination of information that promotes the refusal to bear children. The Law draws upon mechanisms already in place to safeguard against the dissemination of harmful content, analogous to those outlined in Federal Law No. 478-FZ of 2022. The amendments target various sectors, including mass media, cinema, and advertising. In the event of an infringement of the Bill, a penalty of up to RUB 5 million may be imposed.
