Brazil: Administrative Council for Economic Defense announced preventive measures in investigation into Apple over alleged abuse of dominant position regarding its operation system (iOS)

On 25 November 2024, the Brazilian Competition Authority (CADE) announced preventive measures in its investigation of Apple for alleged abuse of a dominant position in its operating system. The investigation focuses on the terms and conditions of Apple's operating system (iOS), which may restrict competition in application distribution and in-app purchase systems. CADE has imposed a preventive measure requiring Apple to allow developers and users to choose alternative distribution channels and payment systems, with a 20-day deadline for compliance. Failure to comply with the preventive measure will result in a daily fine of BRL 250'000.
