Spain: Implemented Act requiring transparency on use of AI in legal services (Organic Law 5/2024 on the Right of Defense)

On 4 December 2024, the Act requiring transparency on the use of AI in legal services (Organic Law 5/2024 on the Right of Defense) enters into force. The Act establishes comprehensive regulations on the right of defence as a fundamental legal protection under Article 24 of the Spanish Constitution. It requires disclosure on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in digital platforms related to legal services and mandates public access to information on how AI systems make recommendations or decisions.
